EtoO Ruled Out of Cameroon-Croatia Clash Through Injury

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on June 16, 2014

Cameroon skipper Samuel EtoO is not expected to play in Wednesdays World Cup game against Croatia due to injury.

The striker, who has missed two days of training with an injured knee, has been asked to sit out of the Indomitable Lionss sessions for the next ten days, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Cameroon Football Federation (CFF), Laurence Fotso, confirms.

The same injury forced the Chelsea striker out of the Uefa Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid at the end of last season.

Coach Volker Finke disclosed to newsmen on Sunday that EtoO will not be fit for the West African nations penultimate group stages game.

He has a problem with the right knee that he had already had at the end of the season with his club Chelsea, Finke said at a press conference.

He did not train yesterday (Saturday) not today (Sunday).

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan marksman has now hinted it takes him something out of the ordinary to play in the game against Croatia, while resounding his confidence in his team-mates to guide the four-time African champions into the knock-out stage of the tournament.

I am hoping the gods grant me a miracle and that I am able to defend my dear, beautiful country, the 33-year-old told Cameroon Radio-Television (CRTV).

EtoO Set to Miss Cameroons Second Group A Game Against Croatia.

If this is not the case, I will always play my role as captain and especially as the big brother to push my young teammates to victory.

For three-and-a-half months, I have not had the time to recover. You could see that even in the build-up to the World Cup I hadnt had a lot of practice until the friendly against Germany.

Cameroon lost 1-0 to Mexico in their opening Group A game on Friday.

He added: During the first match of the World Cup against Mexico, I tried but after consulting the medical staff we realised that I needed a rest. Even in the ninth minute, I felt pain.

EtoO faces a race against time to be fit for his countrys final group game against hosts Brazil next Monday.

Michael Schumacher Was Placed in a Medically Induced Coma Following a Ski Accident in December.

His family thanked people who had sent messages of support, saying: We are sure it helped him.

They also praised the excellent job of medical staff at the hospital in Grenoble, in south-east France.

Doctors had kept the seven-time champion in a coma to help reduce swelling in his brain.

Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore, Schumachers manager, Sabine Kehm, said in a statement on behalf of his family on Monday.

For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye, she said, without giving further details.

He had been skiing off-piste when he fell and hit a rock, investigators said.

Mondays statement was the first substantial update since early April when Ms Kehm said the German racing driver was showing moments of consciousness and awakening.

Schumacher retired from racing in 2012 after a 19-year career.

He won two titles with Benetton, in 1994 and 1995, before switching to Ferrari in 1996 and going on to win five straight titles from 2000.

Keshi- Expects Lot More Surprises in Brazil

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on June 16, 2014

Coach Stephen Keshi agrees that the World Cup is poised to surpass records from previous tournament and also admits there are more surprises lying in the wait.

About three goals have been scored per game after four days of exciting football in the South American home of Samba, while the tournament is yet to witness its first share of the spoils.

Goals have been rolled home and surprises have as well sunk in, with both South American and European champions already one game down in the race for the round of 16. However, big name players have not failed to deliver, as some have come up with beautiful goals to behold.

Stephen Keshi Answers the Media in His Pre-Game Billing on Monday.

Keshi, speaking in his pre-game press briefing for the African champions clash with Irans Team Melli at the Arena de Baixada in Curitiba says there will be lots of surprises at this World Cup.

One of the surprises many have waited for is the fulfillment ofthe great Peles dream of an African country lifting the Fifa mundial gold, at the end of the 20th century; one Keshi reiterates has edged so close and could happen soon.

African teams are close to the World Cup victory, the 52-year-old said, adding that the Super Eagles aim is to reach the final of the 2014 tournament.

The Nigerian dream starts today (8:00pm) against a resilient Iranian side, who kept more clean sheets than any other side in the qualifying campaign of the ongoing tournament.

Fifth-timers, Nigeria, like their Asian counterparts, have not won a World Cup match since France 98, while the former are on a disappointing run of five matches without a win.

The Iranian players have heaped much praise on their Portuguese boss Carlos Queiros, nonetheless; his rival on the opposite dugout is a trusted hand- having guided his former team to the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) title two years after taking over the reins.

The winner of todays clash, look to join Argentina- 2-1 victors over Bosnia-hercegovina on Sunday- at the summit of Group F, while a draw could open up the group.

Ronaldo Fit for Germany

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on June 16, 2014

Portugal and Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo says he is fit and ready to line up against Germany.

The 29-year-old have been troubled with knee and thigh injuries in the build-up to the European nations campaign in Brazil, but admits he is 100% fit and wants to have a great World Cup.

He however dismisses suggestions he has to replicate his fascinating season with La Liga giants and European champions Real Madrid, for whom he has netted 252 times in 246 appearances.

Cristiano Ronaldo Downplays Pressure to Replicate Club Feat for Portugal in World Cup.

I dont think I have to show anyone anything, he said.

If we look at my statistics and resume youll see that.

Ronaldo, who is expected to captain coach Paulo Bentos men against Germany in Mondays opening Group G match in Salvador, is Portugals all-time leading scorer.

He won his second Ballon dOr honour this year, as well as his second Champions League title, as Real hammered city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 in Lisbon in May.

I dont have to demonstrate anything, he stressed. Not now or before or after. What I have to do is continue my career which has been great so far.

The ex-Manchester United forward single-handedly clinched a sixth World Cup ticket for the 1966 bronze medalist, by scoring all goals in their two-legged European play-off victory over Sweden in November.

He added: I believe one player is not a team, Im here in the national team to help, Im an additional player, I can make a difference in some of the games, but I cant carry the whole team on my back.

Im just someone who wants to help to become a champion. Were not the favourite or in the group of favourites, which is something which is good for us.

Koeman Appointed Southampton Manager

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on June 16, 2014

Southampton have named former Netherlands international Ronald Koeman as their new boss.

The 51-year-old, who resigned from his position as Feyenoord head coach in May after guiding the Dutch club to a second-place finish in the Eredevise, has agreed a three-year deal with the Saints.

He replaces Mauricio Porchetino, who left the St. Marys Stadium to take over Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Ronald Koeman Replaces Mauricio Porchettino at Southampton.

Southampton have a talented first-team squad, a world-class academy and the infrastructure to sustain success in the Premier League, said Koeman.

The opportunity to continue the development of this famous football club was simply too good to turn down. I cannot wait to get started.

His brother Erwin has been appointed as assistant after he quit his coaching role at RKC Waalwijk.

The pair will be joined by Jan Kluitenberg, as assistant first team coach. Kluitenberg worked with Koeman at Vitesse Arnhem, Benfica, AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

Southamptons existing first team support staff completes the new set of faces in the Premier League clubs dugout as its search for a goalkeeper trainer continues into the near future.

Koeman won the 1988 European Championship with the Oranje. He lifted the then European Cup- now Champions League- with PSV Eindhoven in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992. He also won domestic league titles in the Netherlands and Spain during his professional playing career which spanned from 1980 to 1997.

He represented the Netherlands in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups and scored 14 goals in 78 international appearances.

He has coached teams like Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia and AZ Alkmaar, before joining Feyenoord in 2011.

Chelsea offer Toni Kroos five-year contract worth €42.5m

Toni Kroos

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants Toni Kroos to join his summer spending spree at Stamford Bridge and has offered the Bayern Munich midfield linchpin a five-year contract worth a whopping €8.5m-a-season to complete the move, according to Spanish daily ElConfidencial.

Kroos is just about to enter the final year of his contract and Bayern and continues to snub any interest in a new deal with the Bundesliga giants, forcing Pep Guardiola to consider allowing the German international to leave this summer rather than walk away on a free in 12 months time.

The 24-year-old has been consistently mentioned in connection with a switch to Real Madrid and Manchester United over the last six months, but Mourinho is in no mood to mess around this summer and has put his cards on the table with a lucrative, long-term contract offer.

Mourinhos transfer action has been swift, decisive and fairly pragmatic in the early weeks of the campaign, as proven by beating United to a £30m deal for Spanish playmaker Cesc Fabregas.

That deal has not stopped Mourinho targeting yet another quality central option proven on the Champions League stage though, which means Chelsea are prepared to beat any contract offer putforward by Madrid or any other club to secure another transfer coup.

Madrid also want two new midfielders this summer and have held tentative early discussions with Kroos representatives, but are only prepared to allocate €6m-a-year for his salary and would prefer to sign either Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti or Chelsea star Ramires as a first option.

Kroos is of course currently focused on playing his part in Germanys World Cup campaign,  but Mourinho has already proved this summer that the South American showpiece is no obstacle to a blockbuster deal going through.

The major obstacle to any progress though is Bayern, who have not given up completely on persuading the pass master to stay at the Allianz Arena beyond the length of his current deal.

Bayern may have failed to retain their Champions League crown last season but they still completed a domestic double in Pep Guardiolas first campaign in charge, with Kroos a key part of winning bothcompetitions.

Guardiola is blessed with a plethora of midfield talent though and no player is bigger than Bayern, with Philipp Lahm most notably moving to central midfield with huge success last year and at a time when the German champions also have Thiago Alcantara, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller fighting for a starting spot.

That means Kroos could well seek out a fresh challenge and a more defined role elsewhere this summer, with the prospect of earning a massive €42.5m for five seasons of service at Chelsea surely very difficult to turn down.{GMS}

Barcelona: We Wont Pay You Fabregas

Posted by: @femi4arsenal on June 17, 2014

Cesc Fabregas is becoming embroiled in a bitter battle with former club Barcelona after they refused to pay him £4 million owed from his transfer from Arsenal in 2011, reports The Daily Express.

The Spain international completed a £27 million move to Chelsea last week after spending three years at the Nou Camp with Barcelona. As part of the deal, Barcelona were forced to pay Arsenal over £5 million in clauses but they are refusing to settle their debts with Fabregas.

When Fabregas left the Emirates Stadium for Barcelona in the summer of 2011, he contributed £4 million out of his own pocket to make sure he sealed a move to his boyhood club. Barcelona committed to repaying Fabregas, but have now withdrawn that offer.

Following his move to Stamford Bridge, Barcelona has told Fabregas, 27, to forget the debt as they will refuse to pay it. They have also told him that if he makes the clause public, they will deny any agreement ever existed.

It is a sad and bitter end to what was once a beautiful relationship between the player and the club. Having joined Barcelonas famed academy as a 10-year-old, he left for Arsenal aged 15. Loved by the Gunners, Fabregas yearned for a return to the Nou Camp and itlooked for all the world that he would be there for the rest of his career.

However, in what was a tough season for Barcelona, Fabregas found himself playing the role of scapegoat a transpiration that ultimately sealed his fate. Now Fabregas must decide whether to cut his ties with the club and forget about the £4 million debt, or risk damaging his position with Barcelona further by becoming embroiled in a legal battle.

Having been offered a reported £10 million-a-year contract by Jose Mourinho, Fabregas is not going to go hungry any time soon, but getting the £4 millionowed to him will be a matter of principle. The Spaniard gave up a key position in Arsene Wengers squad, essentially forcing his way out of Arsenal, to join up with his boyhood club, but, when the chips were down, the blame was pointedsquarely at him.

Fabregas now has to rebuild his reputation with Chelsea; a club he claimed he would never join in thepast. It is a thoroughly disappointing andundeserving situation that Fabregas finds himself in and the least Barcelona can do is give him what they said they would pay him.{GMS}

Cleverly

Arsenal Football Club has expressed interest in bringing Uniteds youngster Tom Cleverly to the Emirates. Information Nigeria understands.

The deal however would take place if Vermaelen decides to quit the NorthLondon club for Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger is targeting an exchange deal that could see Cleverly or Smailling join the club.

Vermaelen, who is 28, has one-year left on his contract, and has falling down the pecking order despite being the Captain.

Wenger has been a strong admirer of Cleverly, and believes under the right tutelage, the youngster could become a WorldClass prospect.

This transfer link is bound to come under scrutiny by the Arsenal fans since the club failed to bring back Cesc Fabregas.

Whats Passing Game Without a Goal? Eagles Made Wrong Choices at the Other End

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on June 17, 2014

Iran and Nigeria made a wreck of the World Cup goal galore on Monday, ending an end-to-end low tempo encounter at the Arena da Baixada in a stalemate.

The 20th edition of the Fifa tournament, had provided 41 breathtaking goals prior to the late evening kick-off, with a goal ratio of 2.5 per match. But expectations for the clash between the Asian giants and three-time African champions was on the low, with pundits suspect of both nations track record.

And it justified its billing after 90 minutes; the first draw of the World Cup in the wake of a very, very poor quality game on the relatively high altitude city of Curitiba. The opposing pair continue their run of winless cup games since France 98. An affair that produced a desirable result for fourth-timers, Iran, but not their reigning African champions opponents.

John Obi Mikel Contest for the Ball During Last Nights Goalless Draw With Iran.

The Super Eagles, notwithstanding the presence of some sharp attackers like, Victor Moses, Emmanuel Emenike, Ahmed Musa up front failed to break down the purposeful defence of Team Melli in the final third, while bossing the game from coast to coast all through.

Credit must be given to coach Carlos Queiros side. The former Manchester United assistant coach have succeeded in building a team with discipline and high organisation, willing to fight for every ball and, even press forward with a rather subdued elegance.

Reza Ghoochannejhad in Anguish After Being Denied a Goal By Vincent Enyeama.

Coach Stephen Keshi surprised many with his starting line-up, after agreeing Nigeria needed a jump start in their Group F journey. One would have expected much-diminutive figures like Osaze Odemwingie and Shola Ameobi- both second-half substitutes- to get the team going right from the blast of the whistle, but lo! The Big Boss opted for some quick, but expressionless feet.

On-loan Liverpool winger, Victor Moses, for much of the first-half, was a thorn in the Iranian defence but had to give way in the second period and CSKA Moscow forward Musa- though had the whole of the game to start making huge impressions on the biggest stage in world football, struggled to come up with right decisions in the opponents box.

Emmanuel Emenike, whom I had never known to be selfish, is yet to find his goal-scoring knack since helping Fenerbahce to the Turkish title in May. The overall choices made by the Nigerian attackers were poor where it mattered most, similar to a ticki tacka without a bite.

John Obi Mikel Was Voted the Budweisser Man of the Match.

John Obi Mikel had a better performance; connecting well with the players up-front, while partnering with Ogenyi Onazi and Ramon Azeez to push Queiros men back into their half for the duration of the match. The only one failing of the Nigerian midfield is the time it has taken them to release their strikers with a purposeful delivery since the nation clinched a fifth World Cup qualification last November.

Were It Not for this Vincent Enyeama Save, Iran Would Have ran Away With a Surprise Win.

Vincent Eyeama continues being a fortress in the Africanss defence. A couple of dare-devil saves wouldnt have passed unnoticed, and his command of the goal area improved Kenneth Omeruo and Juwon Oshaniwas game- the latter did prove to be fitting into Elderson Echiejiles shoes gradually, but lets see how it lasts. Omeruo was a good match for Reza Ghoochannejhad and Askhan Dejagah, with little assistant from 28th minute replacement for Godfrey Obaobona, Joseph Yobo.

Last but not the least, Efe Ambrose His former manager at Celtic, Neil Lennon, says: Hes got whats called a curly toe. Ambrose defended well, but his pace has always slowed his attacking prowess. Some aimless crosses from his left wing, had me wondering; to what ends.

Up next is Bosnia-Hercegovina and Argentina. Nigeria need up their game and take more shots at goal, as these opponents have prolific strikers- I mean match winners.

Every Time Cristiano Ronaldo Complained Duting Germany vs Portugal At World Cup

Posted by: Deolu on June 17, 2014

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a terrible day at the World Cup on Monday, June 16, as Germany won 4 0 over Portugal.

Portugals most talented (and photogenic) player watched as his team fell apart in their first match against Germany. But Ronaldo didnt just stand by, working on his tan while his team let four goals go in. He complained. Arms flailing, face-making, he complained.

Sorry, Cristiano, but youre one of the best players in the world. Why the pouty face?
